Today I was informed of my dream job at my favorite local school. A school where I hope to have my children attend in the near future (I was hoping they would start out there). A special educator position for grades K-6 will be available at the school starting next school year. I have completed all of my Special Education courses, but I still don’t feel ready! I have been told by my mentors that no one enters a position knowing everything! Some things you need to learn by simply doing it yourself. This is my passion and something I really enjoy doing!
Sometimes I worry about how I will ever make a years worth of lesson plans or manage classroom behaviors. I am very excited to be an educator but sometimes I wonder if I will be able to do it!! Is this normal among educators starting out?
I think that is very true. THere is a position opening for the school I work for next year and I will not have my certification yet. I was told that they might hire if I am close and that I can finish wthin a time frame. I am not sure that I am ready yet either. I have been covering classes at the school I work with and I sometimes get overwhelmed.

I applied last year for a special educator position at the school I volunteer at. My SP was promoted to director of SPED so she told me to apply for the position. I passed the Praxis I and was determined eligible for the Alt 4 program, but didn’t end up getting the position. It came down to me and one other person who I think deserved it more anyway. She is certified and is great with the kids. In a way I’m glad I didn’t get the position because while taking courses, completing the Alt 4 requirements, and raising my two kids, I would have been completely drained! This is another reason why I am hesitant to apply for this upcoming position!
